Modern Green Canada is about to begin our flagship project on the former site of the Oakridge Transit Centre (OTC) on West 41st Avenue in Vancouver, just east of Oak Street in the heart of one of Vancouver’s most desirable neighbourhoods. The 13.8-acre development will see our vision come to life, bringing people together and transforming the area with exceptional quality in the decades to come.

Until the 1940’s, the area south of King Edward Avenue in Vancouver was relatively undeveloped save for the occasional school, hospital, or golf course. The end of the Second World War saw an increase in demand for housing and amenities, and Vancouver’s major landholder, the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR), opened the lands to development.
In 1948, BC Electric acquired the land at Oak Street and West 41st Avenue to establish a depot for its new network of trolley buses, and about this time the name “Oakridge” started to be used to describe the neighbourhood.
By the time most of the depot operations were relocated to the new Vancouver Transit Centre in 2006, it was home to 244 trolley buses, 182 diesel buses, and more than 1,200 staff, including drivers, mechanics, and administrators.
Now, the OTC site will once again be part of a new vision for Vancouver, providing residences and curated amenities that support people at any stage of life. For Modern Green Canada, the site’s rebirth represents a rare opportunity to create an iconic new community in one of the most liveable cities on earth.
